November Joyful World SAL

Hi friends! I finished stitching up the November Joyful World SAL piece on Wednesday, thought I would finally show it to you today. :)
I stitched this one over one on with DMC. I chose many of my own colors. Quite a few colors just seemed to not match the picture shown online. The evenweave used is an oatmeal color and once again I found out as I stitched it is UNEVENWEAVE. 25ct across,  26 ct up and down. Oh well. It still fits in the cubby shelf.
I am almost done with another Christmas ornament. Hard to get it done with Jacob and Madeleine here all day yesterday and today because they are off for Fall Break from their universities.
Our friend Jenny told me about the book she was reading and how much she was enjoying it. I decided it would be great to listen to it on CD from my library the same time as Jenny. Kinda fun to "read" it together. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Annie Barrows and Mary Ann Shaffer is a great book....HOWEVER I must tell you it contains swearing. And I kept reading it. I am ashamed of that actually. Especially since in my last book review,  I TOLD YOU I STOPPED READING THE BOOK FOR MORAL REASONS AND I AM A CHRISTIAN.  Now here I am all failed and tripped up and looking like a dummy. All I can tell you is the absolute truth. I wanted to share a read with my friend. The story is a fantastic one actually. I wish the authors excluded the swear words.

“I wonder how the book got to Guernsey? Perhaps there is some sort of secret homing instinct in books that brings them to their perfect readers.” January 1946: London is emerging from the shadow of the Second World War, and writer Juliet Ashton is looking for her next book subject. Who could imagine that she would find it in a letter from a man she’s never met, a native of the island of Guernsey, who has come across her name written inside a book by Charles Lamb….

As Juliet and her new correspondent exchange letters, Juliet is drawn into the world of this man and his friends—and what a wonderfully eccentric world it is. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society—born as a spur-of-the-moment alibi when its members were discovered breaking curfew by the Germans occupying their island—boasts a charming, funny, deeply human cast of characters, from pig farmers to phrenologists, literature lovers all.

Juliet begins a remarkable correspondence with the society’s members, learning about their island, their taste in books, and the impact the recent German occupation has had on their lives. Captivated by their stories, she sets sail for Guernsey, and what she finds will change her forever.

Written with warmth and humor as a series of letters, this novel is a celebration of the written word in all its guises, and of finding connection in the most surprising ways.
I am struggling with this severe anemia. I have an upper and lower scope set up with the GI specialist next week. This will hopefully reveal nothing! and rule out problems. I am eating meat and lots of iron rich foods. Oh boy. And taking my iron pills. Lots of them.

I will be back next time with my ornament finish. Take care of yourselves. Have a great weekend. I will be relaxing. And napping with poodles. ;) I have been extra tired.

Stitching and praying,
Vickie

Uneven - evenweave is so annoying. Luckily, this piece didn't suffer from it.. it looks beautiful. I haven't started mine so I guess I'll have to analyze the colors too. I love your choices.

Vickie, your November stitching is beautiful. You did great color changes. I am also stitched and finished this design, but I am not satisfied with my colors at all. I didn't change the recommended colors and it is too bad, I should have.
Have a good weekend!

Good Morning Vickie,
Your November stitching is just beautiful and the changes you made in the colors are just perfect! I love it! I am glad the stitching still fits in your cubby....you constantly amaze me with your over one stitching! I am looking forward to seeing your ornament stitching!

I can so relate to feeling tired when your blood work is off....mine was off too...sighs...poodles and kittens sure love to curl up for extra naps though! Am praying so hard that all is okay with you....rest and stitching...I find those two always seem to help!

I too wish authors would just eliminate the swearing...it is so unnecessary! I so loved the book and the story....sighs! I so enjoy knowing we are doing something " together"...either reading or stitching ornaments...friendship is such a special blessing!

Have a good weekend my dear friend. Rest well and I hope you can enjoy some stitching time! I will be thinking of you and praying hard! I see my GI Dr. on Wednesday...when are your tests?

Sending hugs my friend!

Beautiful finish as always sweet friend! As for the cussing in the story, if the publisher is not a christian publisher, than the chances are pretty great that they told the author to "spice it up a bit". The world always seems to thank that vulgarity some how adds flavor to a conversation, when in reality, all it does is show the true lack of taste and respect for those around them. As a writer, I know the easy way to make a character seem bold and brash would be to have them cuss, but it's lazy writing. It's far more difficult to make a character seem bold and brash by using humor and clean language. :)

Blessings to you always sweet friend. Hope you feel better soon. ((hugs)).

Congratulations on your November finish, Vickie! Your color changes look fabulous. I hope the tests will help to rule out things or provide a cause to the anemia so then they can come up with a plan of action for you. Thinking of you; have a relaxing weekend!

Thank you for visiting my blog, I still keep you in my prayers so hope you will have good results.. your stitching as usual is lovely. I read that book Vicky it was recommended by someone in my reading group. I loved the story and am thankful I don't have to make pies from peelings but not so long ago I came across on a blog, a recipe for compost heap jam. It is made from apple and lemon and orange peelings. No bits in it, it looks clear sort of a red colour, but it supposedly tastes like marmalade, we haven't made any but might as we have several pounds of cooking apples to process and freeze, but.. DH has made some grape jelly last week as we had pounds of grapes given us, so several gallons of grape wine is 'nurdling' on the side in our kitchen and several jars of the jelly waiting for labels. It does taste quite fresh and rather nice! Take care sweet friend and blessings.

Gorgeous November peacock. Isn't it funny how one extra thread per inch changes the dimensions so much?

Now my son is 14 I'm letting him watch films with swearing in (he hears worse at school!) but I still edit it out when I'm reading to him. I sy "blummin'" a lot instead LOL

Another lovely finish - I love the blues. Sounds like you're doing everything you can for the anemia, just keep on taking good care of yourself.

I really hope they find you well with the new tests. I love the Nov. stitch. You chose very pretty colors.

You are ahead in the stitching!! Good for you! I just picked up a needle for the first time in over four weeks! It felt good. I really love the colors you used for the November SAL piece--it really pops! I shall pray that the tests do not show anything else to complicate your life further! You must just take it easy and eat well! I have read (well... listened...)to that book also. All in all, I enjoyed it...and I agree that the swearing is never necessary. Hugs!

Love the November stitch. Beautiful! Bummer that it was unevenweave, but it looks great. Loved the book you mention. Good read. Prayers for your tests to come out fine. Hope the anemia is the answer to your headaches -- sounds like a chore to fix!

Happy weekend!

November is definitely beautiful! I wonder why so many colors didn't match though; that's odd. The baby sampler I did a couple of years ago was on unevenweave, bummer! It didn't mess the piece up too much but I expected certain things to be square... nope!

Wonderful stitching and lovely colour changes.

I absolutely love the November patch....beautiful peacock. My husband is anemic and he requires iron infusions every so often. Might want to mention that to your doctor. My hubby sees a hematologist for this reason.

Again such a beautiful embroidery, my dear friend. I would also like to thank you for your always so loving words with me also in the "dark" hours. I thank you for your prayers and your good thoughts.
God bless you.

Hi Vickie,

Your finish is lovely! Instead of mailing yoy there's a card coming your way, okay?

Have a good Sunday & take care, dear friend.

Hi Vicki: Came across your blog via Stitcher's Dream blog. When I read you are having issues with iron and tired all the time it struck a cord as I have had this a few years back. Have you heard of Venofer Intravenous
GENERIC NAME(S): IRON SUCROSE COMPLEX? My doc said I was "super anemic". I tried iron supplements and was not enough to change my numbers. Having the Venofer intravenous done a couple of times over some months did the trick. Hope this might be helpful to you. Good Luck and I will keep you in my prayers.

Your version of the peacock looks superb Vickie.
I too have read the book, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Prayers for good test results for you! Love your pretty peacock. I often wonder if authors and movie producers never consider that their films and books can be even more effective and enjoyed by many if they left out the vulgar and repulsive language. I have often planned to see a movie with a favorite actor/actress only to find out that it contains vulgar language, which will definitely be a "no go" for me then. Wish it was not that way..............

What a lovely peacock. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is one of my all time favorite books. You might also enjoy La's Orchestra Saves the World by Alexander McCall Smith (I think there is no swearing in that).

Such a pretty finish, Vicky. I love the colors you have chosen and also the "uneven" evenweave ;-). I am so much admiring your stitching one over one! It looks great, but I really come not into the right swing for it .... don't know why.

Hugs
Hilda

He is such a beauty, this little peacock that Maja designed for November. Great to see it finished for your cubby shelf. And as long as it fits into the respective box, it doesn't matter that it's stitched on uneven weave fabric :)

I do love seeing your monthly pieces stitched over one, Vickie--they are so delicate and lovely!

So sad to hear about your anemia battle--it has just been one thing after another for you in the health battles this year. I'm so sorry :(
