Hi friends! I finished the "A Year of Celebrations: July" pattern by Hands On Design. This is found in the July 2014 issue of Cross Stitch & Needlework Magazine.
Isn't it sweet? I love it! As with the rest in this series, I have stitched this on 25ct New Khaki linen one over one with DMC. I did use VMSS Golden Straw instead of DMC 832 for the gold.
I now want to begin the Snowflower Diaries SAL for July. Adorable!
I also worked on some sewing this week. I made a peter pan collar and attached it to a shirt. You would not think it that hard. Well.... unless you have the exact same size shirt with neck opening, the template I am using does not work. So I adjusted. And adjusted. And adjusted. And then sewed. And thought it seemed, um a bit weird, but thought I guess this is the way it is supposed to be. Then you look at the final product and say oh boy! This is bad. And Madeleine says, "Mom, it looks like a clown shirt. You can't wear that." You try not to cry because you just want a dumb shirt. So I set it aside, finished the above cross stitch. I then took the collar all apart. Now this week I will start again. I am hoping to show you a shirt next time friends.
It has been really hot here. In the 90's. Not good at all for headaches. I have been getting gardening done early in the morning. Then I have to hide out in the air conditioning. If I must go out, it is dash to the car and dash into air conditioning. My headache soars with heat.
Yesterday we went out for a nice dinner with our in-laws for Father's Day. Then we went to one of our favorite custard stands for frozen custard. On our way out, we saw a man sitting on the patio with a pot bellied pig on his lap! I had to stop and ask about it. His name is Howie. :) He is 2 years old. They live to be about 15 years old. They are very smart. He looked to be about 30 to 35 pounds. The man fed him frozen custard on the ground and Howie ate it up while wagging his tail. ;) Only in Wisconsin!
I hope you have a great week my friends! Thank you for stopping in today.
Stitching and praying,
Vickie

Your July piece looks fabulous, Vickie. I like the gold you used. Need to see if I have it in my collection of VMSS threads. Good luck with the peter pan collar. Stay cool!

Hi Vickie,
Oh boy what a story about the collar ... good luck next week!
Your finish is lovely and those roses!!! So beautiful!
I don't think I would like to have a pot bellied pig on my lap, but it's fun ...
Take care with the heat, my friend.
Bye and Dutch waves, Carolien
Good Morning Vickie,
Your July stitching is beautiful as always! There is just something about patriotic pieces that make me smile.....the colors in this one are really lovely.
Your roses are also just beautiful. They look so well loved ;) You do such a great job in your garden....even with your headaches!
As for the pot bellied pig....how funny. When we first moved into our house I planted flowers right away in our front yard....Scott was out working in the garage when he heard the weirdest sound! He went to investigate and here was our neighbors pot bellied pig EATING all of my newly planted flowers. Every last one....we said the same thing "only in Menifee "
Have a good day my friend. Sending hugs your way....good luck with your collar! I am off to water my flowers...it will be about 112 here today poor things.
Beautiful finish for July my friend :) This heat is terrible and like you I am now hibernating in the A/C but there are storms on their way this afternoon and my head already hurts.
Wonderful finish. It is a wonderful motiv for July.
Sorry about your Shirt.
Have a nice week.
Manuela

Love your July finish, Vickie! I'm working on a couple of patriotic things myself right now--'tis the season!
Hope you can figure out the collar--it's been years and years since I attempted sewing a collar on a garment (probably 40+ years!!!)... Good luck!
Your story about the pig made me smile. Hope it cools down a little for you.
I love that July design. I'm so sorry about the heat! That is one reason we moved to Washington State, we usually have quite temperate summers. Today has been lovely at around 70. Keep cool! I lived in Kentucky and Florida so I do know all about the heat!
This is so pretty Vickie. Stay away from the heat and keep yourself hydrated.
Take care!
Another cute monthly. Sorry about your collar. We are starting to get the heat too. I stay inside with a/c when I can too.
Lovely little finish and so sorry about the collar - how disappointing after so much work. I could never handle those temperatures, so you're doing great.
Love your little patriotic design, Vickie! Sorry to hear about your shirt - wishing you better luck when you try again. And what a funny/cute story about the pot bellied pig. : )
What a sweet patriotic July finish!!!
Love it :)
I love this monthly series. I hope to be able to stitch all the months. Thanks for sharing your July finish. I like the idea of 1 over 1.
Another pretty finish to add to your display. I could just imagine how cute Howie must have looked while eating that custard:)
Oh yes, it is really very sweet, your July piece. I love the monthlies in this series.
Sorry for the collar that didn't work out. Maybe when you try it again.
Lovely stitching! I'm sorry the shirt didn't work out. Keep trying! Things rarely work for me the first time I try them. I need to open up my new sewing machine and practice, but I'm scared! :D
Love your latest finish! :) Oh goodness, that pig sounds adorable. :) Blessings to you sweet friend.
Great finish for the cubby.
Nice story about the mini-pig too. Do they get on with poodles, do you think?
Beautiful stitching Vickie. All of these monthly patterns are so cute and wonderful addition on you display.
Love your blog!! When I was a teenager I had a miniature poodle...Henri!! Now we have two Scotties...Fonzie (black) and Archie (Wheaten). In thinking about your headaches, have you had a super eye exam?? Just a thought. Sure hope you feel better. Take care.
