The BIG HEADACHE That Will Not Go Away

Hi friends, I took myself off of the barbituates almost two weeks ago. It was too much. My skin was starting to peel!(A nasty side effect) Besides being zoned out all the time, you cannot stay on these drugs, on high doses, it is not good. So then, my pain soared. I mean WHOA! kind of soared. Nasty, horrid, feels like your skull is being crushed. I begged the doctor for help. I was put on a medicine that took the pain down to a six on a 1 to 10 pain scale. After two days,  I was put on Imitrex. I took it Thursday evening. It took the headache down to a 4 1/2 on a 1 to 10 pain scale. I was then able to take another one 2 hours later. This took the headache pain down to a 3. That it is where it stays a lot of the time.Every day it will go up a bit for some time also. Maybe it will stay this way until those steroids wear off from my neck injections 2 months ago? No one knows for sure. If that is the case, I may have 2 more months of a headache to deal with. I want a ZERO on the pain scale of course, but I will take a 3 instead of the skull crushing 9(10?) I had sometimes. Thanks be to God!

This Imitrex is used to knock out the headaches(kinda). I do not have migraine headaches. The neurologist tells me I have what are called Intractable Tension Headaches. Yay! NOT!
Thank you for your care, friendship, and prayers.

Have I been stitching? Yes. It was not possible for a while. But now I am. I am working on a Mother's Day gift for my mom. Her birthday is this Friday, so we will get together this weekend to celebrate. So glad to have the extra  days to work on it.
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL MOTHERS!!
I finished Jane and the Man of the Cloth by Stephanie Barron. What an excellent book! Loved it! I highly recommend it to anyone who loves mysteries and Jane Austen. :)
Jane and her family are looking forward to a peaceful holiday in the seaside village of Lyme Regis. Yet on the outskirts of town an overturned carriage forces the shaken travelers to take refuge at a nearby manor house. And it is there that Jane meets the darkly forbidding yet strangely attractive Mr. Geoffrey Sidmouth. What murky secrets does the brooding Mr. Sidmouth seek to hide? Jane suspects the worst—but her attention is swiftly diverted when a man is discovered hanged from a makeshift gibbet by the sea. The worthies of Lyme are certain his death is the work of "the Reverend," the ringleader of the midnight smuggling trade whose identity is the town's paramount mystery. Now, it falls to Jane to entrap and expose the notorious Reverend...even if the evidence points to the last person on earth she wants to suspect...a man who already may have won her heart.
I have been forced to take it easy. I don't want to! We have a household of three shaggy poodles! Ugh. That means a rough time grooming them coming up. :( Well, I shall persevere. It will get done. I just could not do it before. I could not.

So what have I been doing, besides reading? I have been slowly working in the garden. Bit by bit. I am nowhere near done. Not at all. But what am I to do. I tell you,  when you are truly debilitated, you just learn what is important. I have also learned how many true friends I have. Thank you my friends. ♥

Once again, I want to thank you for sticking with me. Thanks for dropping by today. I am so glad you did.

Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Psalm 103:1

Stitching and praying,
Vickie

Oh Vickie, there's no doubt a 3 is better than a 10, but that's still not good enough. Lots of gentle hugs and prayers.

Enjoy the time with your mom - these are special moments you'll remember.

HI Vickie, so sorry the the medication didn't work but at least you have the pain levels down to a 3 but as you say, a ZERO would be much better. Hang in there, we are all praying for you. hugs, Kaye xxx

I don't blame you for asking for drugs with fewer side effects. 3 is definitely better than 10 but still way too much. I don't know how you manage to pier through this. Sure hope you get more relief soon.

Hi Vickie, I thought I would read that you are doing so much better. Have they ever checked to see if all the things they are doing are compatible? I haven't forgot how they tried to put me on some medicine and instead of listening they just increased the dose that was like throwing fuel on the fire until I had a reaction they could see. I don't like steroids because they can cause nasty side effects on some people. I have thought of you so often and said prayers. I will continue to say prayers for you. I like your flowers and stitching Sending many gentle hugs and prayers from your Missouri Friend Shirley

Oh !!! Dear Vickie, I was thinking of you all these last days knowing that you were not good at all with your head.
You are in my prayers and hoping that the doctor finds something well for you. Have you gone to the hospital to the "Pain Treatment Center"?
All my best thoughts,
Isa

Not good that the pain is still there, but sooooo good that you are away from those heavy medications, and down to a 3 on the scale with your new medication. That's a lot better than 9. A lot. I'm so glad to read this.

We were away this weekend at my son's graduation -- had to pack him up and move him home too. I was anxious to catch up on your news though. I'm so sorry to hear about those awful headaches coming back. Prayers that the Imitrex continues to help with them -- and perhaps to lower the pain level even more? Prayers also that these headaches go away much sooner than 2 months! Ach! Hang in there. I'l be sending lots of positive thoughts your way too. Hugs.

It had been a while since your last post and I was really worrying about you, Vickie... I'm glad you are off the barbituates--they sound very scary with those side effects. I'm sure that a level 3 pain felt like a miracle to you after the level you were at... I do hope it goes down further as time passes. I've had about a level 2 headache for the past few days (weather related--I always get them, but not severely) and I'm ready for that to end! Can't imagine how you've been getting through the past two months... Hoping and praying for less pain for you, Vickie...

vickie, I'll be praying that you get to that "zero" on the pain scale. I am so sorry that you have to have any of this pain. I take my health for granted sometimes and whine when I get a little headache. You are an amazing person to stay so upbeat during all of this. Stay strong. Hugs.

Both Dennis and I suffer from migraines and take Imitrex which does work for us. But, it really only is 100% effective on migraines. He also take a med at night to help eliminate headaches and it has helped him.I wish you will soon feel much better. Sending hugs to you....

Praises to the Lord for an improvement in the headache! What I don't like is the word 'intractable'. Praying that this is not the case!

{hugs} to you Vickie
My Dh just started a second course of acupuncture to the head as he's been having problems for a few years with head pain due to his fibromyalgia. He says it helps tremendously and would not be without the regular treatment, its also meant he can reduce his meds too.
Take care xx

Oh my goodness, those pain levels are awful. Anyone who has had a baby knows how to judge pain levels accurately too!

I am glad you managed to get a little stitching in anyway.

Stay strong and be positive Vickie. My heart felt the pain just by reading what you are going through. Hope stitching and love from your poodles are comforting to you. Your garden blooms are lovely.

I'm so glad your headaches are down to a three, but oh, dear friend, I will be celebrating with you when they are zero on the pain scale! I am so sorry you're going through this.

I'm glad you're able to do a little here and there. It does help with the psyche, doesn't it? Your flowers are beautiful and I'm so glad you're stitching, too.

You know I'm praying for you!!

Blessings - Julie
