Hi friends! Do you remember last month I received an RAK from
Kim? Well one of the gifts she sent me was the JBW pattern, French Country Poodle. I stitched it up using the pretty, pink variegated floss Donna sent me in February. I finished it into a "knob knocker"/ door knob hanger for Madeleine's bedroom.
I stitched this one over one on 25ct white evenweave. It is finished with the adorable, pink poodle fabric you see. Thank you Kim! This won't be the last time I stitch this poodle up. :)
My heart finishes aren't always what I want them to be. I find it so hard to keep a uniform shape. Do you have troubles with hearts? This is what hung from Madeleine's door for a few years.
I believe this was from a Cross Stitcher magazine. I substituted my own purple DMC colors to coordinate with her room. :)
I took a picture of Theotokos when I took it off the scroll bars three days ago. You can see I began the beading in the upper left corner.
I want to thank Vicki,Lee and Dani for their advice on beading. I have not heard back from Riolis. That is okay though. Had I looked at the needle they included for beading, I would have noticed it is impossible for one OR two strands of wool thread to fit through those beads. DUH! I did say that I have not done a big project with beads before. I did! So, I took myself to JoAnn right after Dani told me to use Nymo thread for beading. I am happy to say it is working very well. Slow, but very well.

She made two bunnies wearing poodle bows! tee hee! She says, "Okay, you can't see the poodles on their bows but I swear there are some ;-)" Yay! Use the link above to check out this new freebie. I love JBW designs and your poodle heart is gorgeous.
Love your poodle heart and you did a great job on shaping her. Oh yes making a heart shaped pillow is a challenge. I have to draw the heart on the fabric and stitch by hand, then using peaking sheers trim all around the edges. Your did a great job Vickie on yours. Very cool that you inspired a design. Round shapes are always tricky to sew :p but you did a great work!

I think your hearts look wonderful! I can handle round, oval, or square finishes, but have been to chicken to attempt a heart-shape... And your beading is looking so good, Vickie--what an amazing finish this will be :)
Wow so many beautiful projects to ooh and ahh over! I love your poodle and owl heart decoration. Last December tried to make a heart shaped stuffed ornament and it was tricky but it was my very first attempt at a stuffed finish.
Your latest creation is fab. I don't have any trouble with hearts ... I just don't attempt them. :)
The heart finishes are adorable!
I've yet to do one myself that isn't a tiny bit wiggly with the machine stitching around the curves at the top. It just happens. My preferred method to do them is trace the heart out on the fabric using a fabric marker and then stitch on the marked line and it STILL isn't a perfect curve after I'm done. Can't say I don't try though. lol

I haven't attempted a heart styled finish yet... So I can't give you any advice on them... But yours looks pretty good to me! :)

Love your poodle heart. I've never attempted a heart padded pillow before. I usually whip stitch mine so I'm no sure how that would work.
Anyway, it's great that you were the inspiration for the new freebie bunnies.
My aunt was a poodle lover (she had a much adored giant poodle named Gigi) and she had a few of those ceramic poodle statues with the "crinkly" poodle fur accents. That was a pleasant little flashback for me.
I sometimes have trouble with heartshaped finishes, but I do find that the slightly larger ones are easier to get straight. Teeny tiny hearts can be difficult to make smooth. And once I tried doing a butterfly shape. It was SUCH a disaster that I actually threw the piece away and restitched it, then finished it in a tiny wooden embroidery hoop instead.
