A Nurse's Prayer

Hi friends! How are you? Remember last week, when I told you we got snow? Well it is still on the ground here somewhat. We got 6 inches of snow last week on the last day of October! And a little more is headed our way in a few days. Yuck! It is just too early!

Here is the November cubby shelf.
Here is what is in the November pedestal frame.
And here is the poodle display board.
Well, Jacob is coming tonight finally for his "birthday dinner and cake". I will go ahead and show you all his gift I made him, as he does not look at my blog.
This is "A Nurse's Prayer" by Jean Lanning. I stitched this on white 36ct linen. Our Jacob is a pediatric nurse at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. Could not be more proud of him.He is a very caring, loving, Christian man.

I have plantar facsciitis. What is that? Something I wish I did not have! Our friend Carol knows!! Remember when dear Carol's foot ailed her for many months?? Yes! I am in pain. I have been since the very beginning of August.😞 How did this come about? Um, you won't believe this! I can't! Embarrassing. Okay here goes. I saw these exercises, called step ups. Heard of them? If not here is a link to show you what they are:HERE I thought I would do step ups to firm up my rear end. Yep. I did them once or twice a day for two weeks. By the end of that time, the bottom and top of my right foot REALLY hurt! So I stopped doing them! The problem is that the pain did not go away. I also do the treadmill for one hour a day 6 days a week. I suppose my foot did not have time to heal? I don't know. I do know my foot was not used to moving in that type of way, repeatedly and intensely like I was doing.

So what did I do? Nothing. I ignored it. I kept at the treadmill every day, until.... the beginning of October one day my ankle gave out on me while on the treadmill. I had to grab the bars and hold on. My body was telling me, "Hey dummie! The pain is telling you STOP!" So I stopped using the treadmill and saw my doctor finally. She ordered x-rays. Nothing. She told me to take ibuprofen daily, rest it, NO treadmill and see an orthopedic doctor who specializes in feet. I could not get in to see him until the end of the month. Drove me nuts not doing the treadmill all month!

I saw him. He said I had arthritis and I need special shoe inserts. Okay. He said I am to go to a phsical therapist for this. I go to the physical therapist for it and he said no, you have plantar fasciitis. Good news! It is not permanent! I am glad he knows what he is doing. I am rather disappointed the orthopedic doctor didn't?? I asked if I even need these shoe inserts. He said no. Okay. Fine with me. My physical therapist, Luke, tells me that this can take up to 10 months to go away. Wow! Glad 3 months are already past. I am doing stretches and strengthening exercises and beginning the treadmill for 10 minutes twice a day again. The bad news is that the exercises kinda cause more pain.😬

“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” Psalm 27:14

I hope you have a wonderful week my friends! Thank you for stopping by!

Stitching and praying,
Vickie

A great gift for Jacob, you can really be proud of him.
Get well for your foot, let it be a bit more with the treadmill, and save it for a few more weeks, otherwise you'll never really get rid of it.
Have a good time, Martina

My husband had plantar facsciitis, he was in pain for ages, he did wear a compression sock when it was really bad and said it helped. Apparently it occurs more in people who are on their feet all the time, and he is.
Lovely stitching in your pedestal frame and stitching for your son, I hope he had a good birthday.

What great gift for your son.
Your cubby is looking great.
I had Plantar Facsciitis for awhile.
I was on my feet all day, everyday at work.
The doc gave me exercises to do, that really helped a lot.
I hope your pain goes away soon.
Have a great week!

Vickie, I love your November displays. The piece you stitched for Jacob is lovely and very thoughtful. I do hope your foot pain goes away, but I am guessing that it will take time to fully heal.

Ugh, so sorry you are dealing with the plantar fasciitis, I know it is a common condition, but still, not one anyone wants to have.
Great gift for Jacob!
As always, I enjoy your cubby shelf and pedestal stand displays, thank you for sharing them.

Oh, dear! I'm so sorry to hear that the dreaded plantar fasciitis has struck you, too, Vickie! Keep doing those exercises and don't overdo it on the treadmill. I know it's hard... I turned to an exercise bike rather that walking on my treadmill for the time I was healing. Also--make sure to wear good walking shoes and change them out often! That was what caused mine--using older shoes with no support. I also used a rubber ball and frozen water ball to roll under my feet at night which helped, too. Hope it goes away soon--usually, it just takes time!

Great gift for your son--I'm sure he is a very caring nurse and the kids love him. That can't be an easy job to watch little ones suffering.

What a perfect gift for your son. He must be a very special young man to choose such an important job! I had that foot condition years ago. Very painful. I now always wear inserts in my shoes!!

Vickie: Happy Birthday to your Son, that is a beautiful gift to him, made by your hands.
I am so sorry this has happened to you, Mike had the same problem, it did go away in a couple of months, he still does the stretches just to keep it away, he did get the inserts which were a boat load of money.
I am happy you are doing what the therapist said to do this will really help you.
I am liking the Fall pedestal design.

Listen to your body Vickie! It's a very common condition that podiatrists deal with - I work with a specialist biomechanics engineer/podiatrist and he sees a lot of patients with this condition.

I am new to your blog, just ran across it today. I had plantar fasciitis a few years back. My sister suggested Birkenstock shoes/sandals. I tried their sandals during that summer and within a weeks my feet felt so much better. I don't know if they work for everyone, but they did for me. They are pricey, but I didn't have to have special inserts made or even pay a Dr. bill. I can't wear flat sandals or go barefoot for very long. They don't make very many styles of shoes for fall/winter that I like, but I am on my feet a lot, so I have to wear them or else deal with the pain.
Hope this helps!

Good heavens! Maybe your son needs to specialise in eldercare and come look after his Mum! Only teasing, you are younger than me LOL
The stitching displays are looking good.

Perfect gift for your son.
The pedestal frame looks wonderful too.
I hope the pain eases for you Vickie, not a nice condition to have, so many seem to suffer from it.

I've had PF at the same time I had achilles tendonitis in my other foot. I feel for you Vickie. It does not go away easily or quickly. The best thing I found was to rethink my shoe choices. I bought a pair of Vionic shoes and slippers and they helped a lot because of the cup where the heel sits. My podiatrist also said to never go barefoot. Living in Florida, it was something I did all the time. No more! I don't want that to happen again! I hope your PT person heals you as quickly as possible. Hugs!

Your November cubby looks great, per usual, as well as your pedestal and board!
A Nurse's Prayer turned out beautifully for Jacob's present, I'm sure he loves it.
Oh no, not more pain! But I'm glad it was finally figured out and you're already three months in for helping it heal.
