Hi friends! Today is Madeleine's 19th birthday! We had a party with family for her yesterday. I made a chocolate cake with pink buttercream icing.😘
I have a finish to share with you. I stitched up a gift for our Jacob's girlfriend, Claire's birthday.
This is a freebie pattern from Luli you can find RIGHT HERE I stitched this two over two with DMC 818. I used a nice script I found and added their names. I stitched the names one over one with DMC 3713. This is 32ct lambswool linen. I still have to find a nice frame for this. I have a few days yet.
I have begun stitching up the next AotH pattern, which is Swan Lake. I find this one sooooooo pretty. And it does not even have pink!😲
I finished reading Jane and the Barque of Frailty by Stephanie Barron. I have yet to be disappointed by one book in this series. Stephanie is a very good author. She writes so very well, you believe it is Jane who wrote these books. I could not figure this mystery out. It kept me guessing all the way until the very end.
In her latest spellbinding escapade, Jane Austen arrives in London to
watch over the printing of her first novel, and finds herself embroiled
in a crime that could end more than her career. For it is up to Jane to
tease a murderer out of the ton, lest she—and her country—suffer a
dastardly demise.…
On the heels of completing Sense and
Sensibility, Jane heads to Sloane Street for a monthlong visit with her
brother Henry and his wife, Eliza. Hobnobbing with the Fashionable Great
at the height of the Season, Jane is well aware of their secrets and
peccadilloes. But even she is surprised when the intimate correspondence
between a Russian princess and a prominent Tory minister is published
in the papers for all to see. More shocking, the disgraced beauty is
soon found with her throat slit on Lord Castlereagh’s very doorstep.
Everyone
who’s anyone in high society is certain the spurned princess committed
the violence upon herself. But Jane is unconvinced. Nor does she believe
the minister guilty of so grisly and public a crime. Jane, however, is
willing to let someone else investigate—until a quirk of fate thrusts
her and Eliza into the heart of the case…as prime suspects!
Striking
a bargain with the authorities, Jane secures seven days to save herself
and Eliza from hanging. But as her quest to unmask a killer takes her
from the halls of government to the drawing rooms of London’s most
celebrated courtesan, only one thing is sure: her failure will not only
cut short her life. It could lead to England’s downfall. A compulsively
readable, uncommonly elegant novel of historical suspense, Jane and the
Barque of Frailty once again proves Jane Austen a sleuth to be reckoned
with.

And finally, guess what?! Little Henry who many of you have been rooting for, has made progress with Murphy. Yes, it is true!! Now it is not much progress, but it is progress. I have not discussed Murphy on this blog a whole lot. How shall I describe his personality? He is almost 14 years old now. He is quite set in his ways. He is extremely attached to me. Wherever I am, Murphy is. As in he must come into the bathroom with me.😐 I love Murphy. I do, but not in the way I love Henry or even Mabel. I just cannot help it. He cannot be fully trusted. If I want to trim his nails or brush him out, he must be muzzled. I have never had a dog like that. I know you must expect all things when you rescue a dog. And so here we are. Every day things, he is perfect. Brian says he could care less about the whole world as long as he has mama. Murphy is a grumpy, old man. There you go. That sums it up. He likes love, but not too, too much. So our cuddling and extra loving needs to be with our tiny 6 pound Henry.😚 Now there is a poodle who was born to cuddle. He looooves it! And that was my point! Good grief. I got off track here.
I was making buttercream frosting for Madeleine's birthday cake and looked down and surprise, surprise! Henry did it! He got into Murphy's bed and Murphy finally stayed and allowed Henry to stay.
Not exactly cuddling, but they are together in one bed. Notice Murphy is NOT looking?😉Maybe if he does not look, it is not really happening.
Stitching and praying,
Vickie

Such a sweet stitching, my dear friend. Claire will surley love it.
Isn't it amazing how different the personality of dogs can be. Grumple old man - that sounds so quite interesting. I think it is so nice, that you have both a grumple old man and a cuddling sweet boy ;-)
And how sweet they look together. Maybe there going to get best friends one day ...
Have a wonderful new week, dear Vicky. I am looking forward do seeing your Swan Lake!
Hugs
Hilda

Hello Vickie
I started to follow you a few weeks ago but I managed to lose my blog. I'm back and following you again now.
Your poodles are just gorgeous.
The gift you stitched is very beautiful.
Thanks for the info on the book - I can tell that you loved it!
Hope Madeline enjoys her special day and cake x
Happy Birthday Madeleine! I hope you have a wonderful day! Way to go Henry! What a sweet boy with so much love to share! I love how he is befriending Murphy!
I love your finish as well! Hmmm I just may have to stitch this up for Andrew's girlfriend as well! That is just too perfect! I am anxious to see how Swan Lake is looking! I have always loved that one too! I have been so enjoying watching your progress on this sampler!
Last week turned into a crazy week but no worries I am fine! I'll be sending you an email soon! In the meantime I am sending lots of hugs and love to you my friend! ❤️
Oh Vickie, this made me smile. Brandy was that kind of dog - he bit all three of us at some point in time. He was bred for show and was supposed to go to New Zealand as a stud dog all those years ago but couldn't as we had foot and mouth in the UK and no animals could leave the country. I think that being bred for show meant that his temperament suffered a little. Strangely enough he mellowed a bit these last couple of years and quite a lot in the months before we lost him.
Your photo reminded me of the time that Poppy managed to do exactly the same thing with Brandy and it lasted all of five minutes and never happened again:-)
your little Henry is darling - is he an apricot or a red? rescue dogs are tough - you never know how they were trained or "not" trained to tolerate routine things and even thought sometimes you "try" to train them on nail clipping - some hate it their entire life and many have to be sedated at the vet to have it done. I enjoyed the book review a lot. You are a jewel to stitch for others - I am selfish and rarely give my stitching away because I am so slow. A Christmas exchange in our EGA is a rare giveaway for me.
have a great week ! Mel
Happy Birthday to Madeline.
Pretty stitching for your son's girlfriend and a lovely photo of Henry and Murphy:)
Cute pups!
Pretty stitching and happy birthday to your daughter, I hope she had a lovely day. x
Hi Vicky,
Happy Birthday wishes to Madeline. My sons birthday is on Friday and he álso loves chocolate cake.
Wonderful finish and a lovely gift. It looks so great.
The photo from Henry and Murphy is so cute.
How different the characters of the dogs are. But I'm glad that they approach a little bit.
Have a nice week.
Hugs Martina
Lovely stitching, it is so delicate!
Happy birthday to your daughter!
How sweet photo! :)
Happy birthday wishes to Madeleine. I love the gift you made for Claire. I'm sure she will love it.
So happy to see the doggies getting along, well sort of. A happy late birthday to Madeline! That is such a beautiful day lily!
Hello dear friend,
A belated Happy Birthday for Madeleine! Congratulations to all of you!
The finish of the hearts is gorgeous, so sweet of you ...
Love the new developments of the dogs. Sweet Henry ...
Take care, happy stitching and oh yes, that daylily is so beautiful in pink :)
Hugs Carolien
Happy belated birthday to Madeleine. I'm sure the chocolate cake was overly delicious. Just the sound of it makes my mouth water.
Nice stitching for Jacob's girlfriend. This will make her happy.
Oh, sweet little Henry. So good to know that he finally decided to get friends with Murphy.
Happy Belated Birthday to Madeleine!
Love the two hearts, such a pretty design.
Little Henry is trying hard to win Murphy over!
We saw a Standard Poodle out on our walk and the owner told my son that he was a Giant Poodle! He would have made three Murphys and probably six Henrys at least.
Hope Madeleine's birthday was a great one for her! Yummy sounding cake! As for Henry---progress is progress! That sounds and looks like a BIG step in a good direction! Hugs!
How lovely to see the two dogs sharing and getting along. :) Max and Fritz were never that chummy, but I do believe Max was grieving for Fritz for several weeks after he passed. This week he seems to be back to normal eating and behavior habits.
I hope Madeline had a delightful birthday! Her cake sounds so tasty, Vickie! Love the little heart stitching and it is so nice to see the two boys making nice :) I hope Murphy realizes what a good little buddy Henry would be if he only lets him!
The blog are the best that is extremely useful to keep.
I can share the ideas of the future as this is really what I was looking for,
I am very comfortable and pleased to come here. Thank you very much.

Oh my goodness - that picture of Henry and Murphy is adorable! Henry is such a cute and the look on his face is just precious.
I know what you mean about rescued dogs. You never know what they are going to do or what hang-ups they will have. That said, all the dogs I've rescued have been worth it and I'm sure you feel the same. It's just a more difficult relationship, that's for sure!
Blessings - Julie
