The Toad Hunter

Good morning everyone! I hope you are having a great day so far. We are going to go out on the lake with family on a pontoon boat this afternoon. It is going to be hot and sunny. It should be a fun time.

Yesterday I forced myself to get some much needed pruning and weeding done. With such extreme, hot  weather this summer, I left a lot of garden chores til now. As usual my little garden buddy was with me.

This is how Mabel helps remove spent daylilies.

You are looking at the picture of a hunter ladies!

Oh yes! It's true! Mabel has finally, finally found one thing on this planet she is not afraid of.

Toads! You cannot really tell from the picture, it is about the size of a tangerine. Such bravery for a ten, eleven pound poodle. I have read in the past that they are poisonous for dogs. So into the house Mabel went. It took her three years to discover they are here in our gardens. Now that she knows, she checks for them when she is with me. I will have to keep an eye on her. ;)

Here is Little Miss Sassy watching for potato peelings later as I made dinner. Whenever I make mashed potatoes, she is right there to find any peelings that miss the garbage and hit the floor.

Here she is just before the kids came in for the night. Maybe a new talent? Mastering the skateboard? Nah!

Hello new followers! I am so happy to have you here. Thank you dear friends for all of your lovely comments. You make me happy! I will stitch a little bit today. I did finish Mortal two days ago. It is a great book. Can't wait for #3 in the series.

Stitching and praying,
Vickie

These pictures of Mabel are so cute! What a mighty hunter!!

Wish I was going out on the lake today. You will have a great time I'm sure...just don't forget to use sunscreen! The breezes out on the water can be deceiving!

Have fun!

Your afternoon plans sound wonderful, Vickie--what a great family outing. The weather is looking great for the next few days, isn't it?

Love the photos of the great hunter--I'm sure she was feeling mighty proud of herself to have cornered Mr. Toad :)

Those toads taste bad, just ask our dogs. My dogs also chase spiders! Why?! Eek!

What is it with small dogs and toads? We had a plague of tiny 2 inch toads in our garden years ago and our beloved but now deceased miniature Schnauzer used to catch them ever so gently and carry them around for a while and then release them uninjured but, I imagine, badly traumatized. Your little poodle is adorable and very photogenix!

Sweet Mabel, Poppy also finds frogs but I won't tell you what she will do to them.
Have a great afternoon, hugs.

Keep sweet Mabel away from those toads. Last summer my cat and the neighbor's got sick from licking toads. They both were in the vet clinic for several days and they nearly lost Lucy. We have a strict "no toad licking" rule in our households.

Wish I could join ya at the lake but guess it's a little too far for me to come. Have fun!

I made toad huts around the flowers and garden because Nitwit insists on torturing them. Have a great day on the lake!
