This is the plastic canvas project I worked on for Jim, my senior friend at the nursing home, that Henry and I visit. I will be making another one for Mary. Soon! And then I will make one more for myself, and then I will be done with plastic canvas. I do NOT enjoy working with it!
I would like to show you my corner shelf display.
I read The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women By Kate Moore, and WOW! I had no idea. Just no idea of radium's history. How naïve I am.This is quite the eye opening story.
The incredible true story of the women who fought America's Undark danger The Curies' newly discovered element of radium makes gleaming headlines across the nation as the fresh face of beauty, and wonder drug of the medical community. From body lotion to tonic water, the popular new element shines bright in the otherwise dark years of the First World War. Meanwhile, hundreds of girls toil amidst the glowing dust of the radium-dial factories. The glittering chemical covers their bodies from head to toe; they light up the night like industrious fireflies. With such a coveted job, these "shining girls" are the luckiest alive ― until they begin to fall mysteriously ill. But the factories that once offered golden opportunities are now ignoring all claims of the gruesome side effects, and the women's cries of corruption. And as the fatal poison of the radium takes hold, the brave shining girls find themselves embroiled in one of the biggest scandals of America's early 20th century, and in a groundbreaking battle for workers' rights that will echo for centuries to come. Written with a sparkling voice and breakneck pace, The Radium Girls fully illuminates the inspiring young women exposed to the "wonder" substance of radium, and their awe-inspiring strength in the face of almost impossible circumstances. Their courage and tenacity led to life-changing regulations, research into nuclear bombing, and ultimately saved hundreds of thousands of lives...
I am now stitching up an Easter piece.
“Who among you fears the Lord? Who obeys the voice of His Servant? Who walks in darkness And has no light? Let him trust in the name of the Lord And rely upon his God.
I hope you have a very nice weekend my friends! Thank you for stopping by! Your comments truly encourage me. Thank you!

Love your Easter shelves! It's good to try new crafts, if only to discover it's not something you enjoy. The poodle is cute! I'd heard about this book before but haven't read it. Sounds fascinating!

Love your spring display Vickie
Well done on completing the canvas project. I am sure I would not like working with it either, but the result is pretty. Your friend will love the magnet.

Wasn't that the most interesting book?! I had no idea!
Your poodle is so sweet and I do hope things get easier each time you make one :)
I love your Easter shelf and I saw a documentary on the Radium girls on the History channel. It was horrible what they went thru and having no one to listen to them or help them.
I love the way you decorated the corner shelves. That book would be shocking, I had no idea such a thing ever existed!
Your magnet is very cute!!
The display is adorable!! I love that basket!!
That is an adorable little poodle, love the fluffy ears!
Your corner display unit looks lovely too.
Those loopy ears! What do you not like about plastic canvas; too large/rough?
Those bespectacled chicks on your corner shelf are so cute.
You did a great job with the plastic canvas Vickie, he's adorable.
Your poodle magnet is adorable Vickie. Love your corner shelf. It is filled with so many lovely things. RJ@stitchingfriendsforever
