The Egg

Hi friends! I was missing from the blog for a bit because I have been busy with my physical therapy now. Whew. What a lot of work this is.😩Every day, three times a day for this frozen shoulder. And I still do my exercises every other day for my hip! Good grief. Such fun. Well it must be done.

I am back because I have some stitching to share. I finally finished the Easter stitching I mentioned in my last post. NOT before Easter. Oh well. I am not used to going at a slower pace. This recovery thing is NOT my thing, but.. it.. IS, you know what I mean? I am forced to slow down. My body is telling me so.

Here is the beauty I stitched up.
This is 'Rabbit Egg' or 'Hasen-Ei' by Elisa Tortonesi-Sieß.
I stitched this one over one on 28ct Wichelt Monet Blue linen. I really like stitching on Wichelt, don't you?
I knew I wanted to make a door knob hanger with this finish, but I was thinking of finishing ideas. When I found this white decorative trim in Hobby Lobby my eyes lit up.🤩The whole project was set now.

Do you remember these?

I remember these from my childhood. This ribbon I found made me instantly think of the frosting that was piped around these eggs. tee hee!

I could not find a fabric I liked for the backing. I made a trip to JoAnn and found white sparkle mesh. ooOoo! I glued a piece of white paper to the backside of the plain cardboard egg shape for the back piece. I then glued on a double layer of the white sparkle mesh. I could very well be crazy, but to me, it reminds me of a sugar egg. What do you think?

I am very happy with this finish. I plan to make a few more in the future. As in next  year.(I have too many other things lined up to do RIGHT NOW!) The door knob hanger finish is a good option for me to display my seasonal stitching here in the apartment.

I should show you some of the pretty flowers I have received during my recovery time.
Notice they are mostly pink?😍
I am soooooooooooo behind in telling you about the books I read. I finished this book right after my surgery. Jane and the Cantebury Tale by Stephanie Barron was a very good book. I just love every one of these "Jane" books. Stephanie writes these books so well that I forget that they are HISTORICAL fiction. They just seem real. If you love Jane Austen and historical fiction, I really recommend the Jane Austen Mystery Series by Stephanie Barron.
Three years after news of her scandalous husband’s death, Adelaide Fiske is at the altar again, her groom a soldier on the Marquis of Wellington’s staff. The prospects seem bright for one of the most notorious women in Kent—until Jane Austen discovers a corpse on the ancient Pilgrim’s Way that runs through her brother Edward’s estate. As First Magistrate for Canterbury, Edward is forced to investigate, with Jane as his reluctant assistant. But she rises to the challenge and leaves no stone unturned, discovering mysteries deeper than she could have anticipated. It seems that Adelaide’s previous husband has returned for the new couple’s nuptials—only this time, genuinely, profoundly dead. But when a second corpse appears beside the ancient Pilgrim’s Way, Jane has no choice but to confront a murderer, lest the next corpse be her own.
I have designed and stitched up the May poodle pattern. 🐩💕

I have now begun stitching my May wreath for the cubby shelf.

We have five inches of snow here. On top of one inch of ice. Just wonderful. NOT! And it is still snowing.

Well, I will be stitching and doing physical therapy this week friends. ugh. The shoulder work is VERY  hard work. But I am doing it!

Have a super week! I am so glad you stopped by. Thank you for your comments and encouragement. God bless you!

Stitching and praying,
Vickie

I love how your egg turned out and how you can do all that "over one" stitching is just beyond me. Love your flowers and the pink tells it all.

The egg door hanger is precious and I love your thought process in making it resemble the old sugar eggs....very sweet!!!
Hope your PT continues to go well; I know it's not fun!

Yes! Your finish definitely looks like those sugar eggs of old. Love it! I hope your PT goes well and fixes your shoulder. I took a fall on Saturday and have my left arm in a splint and sling. Have to see an orthopedist to see if I have a fracture in my elbow. No stitching or knitting for me!

I like your choices for the finish. Never saw trim like that but haven't been shopping much lately.

I am stuck with exercises, the shoulder will not move to make them possible! Hope you're making progress.

Vickie, your bunny egg turned out fabulous. I love the design, love the trim, and love the sparkly mesh you found for the back. I remember those sugar eggs. I continue to pray that the PT helps bring back the range of motion for your shoulder. Have a super week!

Hang in there with the therapy, the reward will be totally awesome. I have you in my prayers. :) Your finish looks great. Love those sweet little bunnies. I can't wait to see May's poodle. You know I have my needle on stand by. :) Wishing you a most lovely day sweet friend. :)

Hi Vickie,
yes, the body eventually demands its right, but good that you listen to it, so you can best recover.
Wow the rabbit egg looks really great. A wonderful finish.
No - I do not know such sugar eggs, they are too good to eat.
Beautiful flowers and almost all in your color.
My dear friend, I send you a few rays of sunshine.
Hugs Martina

Your finish totally looks like a sugar egg! I was just telling my daughter about sugar eggs this past weekend when we were discussing a Hallmark Christmas ornament that reminds me of them. Your egg is lovely and I like the door hanger finish. I can't believe the crazy weather the midwest is having this year. You must be wondering if Spring will ever come.
I was wondering, now that you live on Main Street, has it cut down on the amount of driving around you have to do? Is there shopping nearby?
Hang in there on the PT - it'll be worth it. Enjoy today!

Oh, your sugar egg is so pretty, Vickie! I can almost taste the frosting :) You did a wonderful job on it and it definitely reminds me of those beautiful eggs from my childhood.

I'm sure you are an excellent patient about doing your exercises as instructed... You will surely heal faster and better for having to undergo these daily exercises!

So sorry about the snow--we are due to get a bit tomorrow, but it will melt quickly since it was in the 70s here this weekend :)

I love the egg. It sounds like therapy is coming along nicely even if a challenge. Each day is one day closer and one more day you won’t have to go through in your journey of healing. Agreed, that one inch of ice under the five inches of snow—not so nice. Surely May will be warmer. 🙂. Judy

Pretty flowers you have been gifted xx

So Easter made an appearance a bit late. Well worth it to finish those cute bunnies. I've never stitched on Wichelt. You don't think it's too stiff?

Exercise is good for you and I hope you feel better and better as a result!

Hi Vickie....

I am just so happy to see a post from you! I have been thinking and praying for you every day!

Your stitching is just as lovely as ever and I am just so in love with your cross stitched egg! I love those bunnies ❤️

I had to smile when I read about the book you have been reading. Jane Austen must be in the air...lol. I am reading The Lost Manuscript of Jane Austen by Syrie James and loving it!

I know physical therapy can be very difficult and time consuming and you are doing a great job! I am praying for a full recovery!

Sending lots of hugs and love your way!

Lovely egg finish and I do like the sparkly back! Good luck with the physical therapy - it might be time consuming but I am sure it is worth it! I am reading a Jane Austen inspired book, too, at the moment - Mary B (about the middle sister, Mary) - I am not loving it at the moment but we shall see if it gets better.

I am glad that you are making some headway in your PT - hang in there!! I am in need of something good to read so I am going to go to the library tomorrow to see if they have the mystery series - here's hoping. So glad you are able to do some stitching; love your Easter finish, adorable. Hugs to you and happy stitching.

Vickie - Your Rabbit Egg is just wonderful! Really like the design and your finish. I know how painful and time-consuming PT can be. I've been helping my Dad with his post-knee replacement PT for 5 weeks now.

It's great to see that you are stitching again, Vickie. This egg is a lovely stitch and it's so very beautifully finished. I also have a couple of designs by Elisa Tortonesi Sieß and I love them all.
Good that you can stick to your physical therapy although it's very time-consuming and I'm sure it's also painful. But I'm sure it will help a lot.

Lovely stitching and flowers Vickie. Physio is hard work but usually worth it. I used to enjoy stitching on Permin linen as I found it easier on the eyes and I like the starchiness of the linen.

Oh you been busy and what gorgeous Easter stitching and finishes.
Wishing you all the best with your physio and a speedy recovery.
Take care !

Wow...you sure have been busy....Yes Physical Therapy does help and at the same time it does hurt a little bit too but you have to keep on going forward though so you can get better. I have been through Physical Therapy so many times throughout my life and it has not been easy but it has paid off at the end though.

All of your Stitchy projects are so pretty...I love them. They are so cute and so adorable.

You Take care of yourself...do lots of Stitching....

Happy Stitching

Sorry to hear about the snow, we have a heatwave which started the day the boys went back to school!

Your roses are gorgeous!

Hope your shoulder gets better soon!

I feel like I remember those sparkly eggs but I don't know why! Out in the middle of the woods did not lend itself to fun stuff like that haha. I love how your egg turned out and it's great to see it modeled on the stained wood door.

LOOOOVE the African violets, especially that pink one with the purple flecks! I like to get different colors but all that is around here is the standard purple, solid pink, and white with purple center. I think you need a blue or yellow flower in the mix. ;)

I love love love the bunnies!! And what a great finish you did. I certainly rememberer those sugar eggs with the peep holes...one year we even made one! From coloring the sugar to creating the shell (using Mom's crystal egg-shaped Avon jewelry box), I remember it was not an easy process. We only did it once!!

You're not late for Easter, you're early for next year! The bunnies look adorable, what a precious finish.
Your white eggs look great too, very delicate looking.
