What Are The Chances?

Hi friends! Still cold here. However I received this gift to warm my day. I hesitated to open it, but Michelle told me not to wait for Christmas. Okay!
A Christmas card and a very nice wooden plaque. It is on display. Thank you so much Michelle. :)

Our sweet Henry has a ruptured disc in his lower neck. It seems unbelievable. We don't know how this happened. As you may recall our precious Mabel has 7 slipped discs! The veterinarian has told us Mabel is one of the worst cases he has ever seen. The x-rays for Henry show a moderate rupture. So he was on pain medicine for a few days and is still on the steroid for a two more weeks. It will be a gradual tapering off of that. He seems fully recovered already. Which of course is wonderful. The vet is hopeful he will fully recover and never have an episode of pain again. The key to that will be using a harness for his walks (we bought it today), not letting him go down the stairs (not the easiest to catch him beforehand always), lift him down off of furniture if he is up and place him down IF he goes on the bed. The vet said if we can't stop his jumping off the bed well then, he can't go on the bed. He just lounges on one bed, that would be Madeleine's. All the time. We will see how this goes. We love him so much. He will be turning 5 soon, like Mabel already is.
It is not that Henry is dumb, no. He is just not as smart as our Mabel. She is so very intelligent. The smartest dog we have ever owned. She listens when we say wait. She waits on her own for steps and to get down from furniture. She would just never try it anymore. She will wait patiently for help from her humans. Here is Mabel for you. ;)
So what are the chances of having two toy poodles with disc issues?! The vet said this is rare!

Still stitching away on Theotokos. No picture update today, didn't get one.
This one is for you Margaret! Can't see it the best, but he IS crossing his front legs.

Thank you for your kind comments my friends. I always look forward to hearing from you. Have a wonderful weekend!

Stitching and praying,
Vickie

So nice to have an early Christmas gift. And hopefully Henry will learn very quickly what he shouldn't do in order to avoid some new pain from his disc.

Oh my. I hope he has no other episodes. People thought we were nuts but when the canine chiropractor came in once a month, we took our dogs. Have no idea if it actually helped. Do they make doggie ramps???

It's so hard to keep a poodle from jumping - Brandy will be 14 in a few weeks and we can't stop him from jumping madly. I hope this doesn't happen again, it's not good when our beloved pets have a health issue.

Oh no! Poor Henry! How unbelievable that Henry is following in Mabel's footsteps. Hopefully this will be his only slipped disc and he will be fine from now on.

Oh, my goodness! Poor Henry! I'm so glad that he is doing better. You know, Mitzi jumps off the bed and the chair all the time and it makes me so nervous. She's only 4 pounds and I worry so that she will hurt herself. I think I'm going to start training her to wait for us to help her. She still such a puppy that she is full of energy. She's very smart, though, so I think we can train her not to jump.

Prayers for all of you!

Julie

Oooh !Christmas comes early for you..enjoy. Sorry to read about Henry...love the pictures of Henry and Mabel, both are so adorable. Sometimes I wish I could have a dog too, but I don't think I'll have the time as yet to totally be committed to caring for a dog as yet :/ Thank you for sharing the pictures.

Keep warm!

They are such cuties. My granddaughter's name is Mabel. Jumping down is the worst. My yorkie could hardly walk. While waiting til we had the money for surgery. The doctor even showed me the xrays showing the problem. But she recovered and is doing fine without the surgery. Good luck.

How really nice of Michelle! And you can display it year round too! As for Henry--he could learn the rules, if you are right there all the time. I just noticed your Henry is the same color as our Rusty, but... he has the same face shape as Mabel and our Thor. Our Rusty has a different face type--I will have to put up a picture to show you... Interesting thing. Thor has doggie-epilepsy, so has to be on meds forever. Rusty is good so far. I can't wait to see the progress picture!! Hugs!

Aaa poor little Henry! They're hardy buggers so I'm sure he's behaving himself most admirably with the jumping and climbing. :)
