I find myself taking little breaks from Theotokos. It is such a large piece. Working with the wool is going fine. I am not sure I look forward to the beadwork.
I discovered this freebie a few weeks ago. This is offered by Donna of By The Bay Needleart. I just knew I wanted to stitch this up.
I wanted this wonderful message to hang on our back door.
I stitched this on 35ct lambswool given to me a while ago by Peggy. I stitched this one over one with DMC B5200.
I had this beautiful fabric in my stash for the backing. Are you familiar with the hymn "It Is Well With My Soul"?
- When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.- Refrain:
It is well, with my soul,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
- Refrain:
- Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul. - My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul! - For me, be it Christ, be it Christ hence to live:
If Jordan above me shall roll,
No pang shall be mine, for in death as in life
Thou wilt whisper Thy peace to my soul. - But, Lord, ’tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait,
The sky, not the grave, is our goal;
Oh, trump of the angel! Oh, voice of the Lord!
Blessed hope, blessed rest of my soul! - And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
Even so, it is well with my soul.
I finished reading A Little House Traveler. This was an omnibus edition with black and white photographs. This book was made of three parts: On The Way Home, West From Home and The Road Back. The Road Back is the one I was interested in, as I read the other two portions this month as separate books. This was Laura's record of their journey back to DeSmet, South Dakota in 1931. Once again, an enjoyable read. Loved all the old pictures. So neat!
We are actually enjoying a few days above freezing this week! Whoo hoo! This will barely melt any of our snow though. But it sure is nice for a change.
Thank you for stopping by and your kind words. I am thankful for your encouragement. Have a great day my friends!
Stitching and praying,
Vickie

A beautiful new finish! Love how you finished it with the pretty backing.
Lovely finish Vickie! So glad that you are having some warmer weather. There are thunder storms here this morning.
A beautiful finish Vickie x
What a sweet new finish - lovely work!
A sweet finish! Love the colours & the backing fabric :)
That was quick, and it is quite beautiful! Nicely done! Does it make you sing the song, every time you see it! It would me...Hugs!
Love that freebie, I'll have to go look it up - I think it'd be a great one to do for my Pastor & his family. That is one of my favorite hymns and I also know the story behind the hymn. It is tragic, but a beautiful testimony of faith. I'm also enjoying the warmer weather this week down near Sun Prairie and am taking the time to clear out the end of our driveway before the sleet/ice/freezing rain/snow hits tonight and tomorrow.
I am planning on stitching that also...love your finish.
I followed your link Vickie.what an amazingly moving story.
Lovely stitching.
Beautiful finish! I'm going to have to read about this one.
A lovely finish and the backing fabric is so pretty! Glad to hear the temperature is rising!
I want to thank you for such a moving blog post today dear friend. It has truly touched my heart.
I know that it is so easy to praise God when it's all sunshine and good times, but only when it gets hard, when things crumble around us do we really see the faithfulness and love of God. I was so very moved by this song and the link that you gave for the story behind it. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. You have indeed blessed us today sweet friend.
I love your finish...it looks so pretty and stitched so nicely, as all your lovely work always is. :)
It's good to take a break from your big piece every once in a while....and the beads will be awesome...I always loved using beads...
Blessings to you always sweet friend.
Good Morning, The day spent with my grandson was a day without stitching. I always love to see what you are doing. I love your sign and know it will look great hanging on your door. I am trying to catch up with my friends. The temperature right now is about 30 degrees different from yesterday. Enjoy your day. Hugs and Prayers from Your Missouri Friend
Thanks for sharing that hymn and the backstory. It is very encouraging! I need to go print off that freebie :)
It is a blessing if you can truly say "it is well with my soul". My husband and I found that we could say those words in 2001 when we lost our only son at the age of 26 in an accident that was not his fault. We can also truly say it is well with his soul as he had accepted Christ as his savior at an early age and lived his Christianity! Thank you for sharing the story behind this great hymn (which we already knew) with the world!
I love it.
One of my favorites.
Woolie hugs
I love the new finish and the fabric you chose to back it with is just beautiful.
Donna
Beautiful. Simply Beautiful!
What a special finish, Vickie--and such gorgeous backing fabric. Is your back door covered or do you bring it in in inclement weather?
We're getting the warm up, too--45° feels almost tropical after the winter we've had, doesn't it?!
Oh Vickie I loved your post. Very special sampler you stitched and love where you hung it. The back fabric is so pretty. Hope it continues to get warmer for you. love Annette
Beautiful - just beautiful
What an inspirational verse and Your stitching is very beautifull.I have find that hymn from You tube because as You maybe know it is not in the tradtinal Lutheran Hymnbooks..In our Finish version there is mostly hymns origin from Germany and eraly bishops and hymn writers from Sweden and Finland ,I mean from 1500-1800 century. The melodies are from Germany or traditional Scandinavian ,very slow and melancholly but oh, so beautifull..
A beautiful finish, I love the backing fabric!
I absolutely love this song! It makes a very nice hanging for your door.
I sang this song many many years ago with my son in church. It's a wonderful memory I'll treasure forever.
A beautiful finish Vickie. I am contemplating stitching this one one day :)
Beautiful finish :o)
What a lovely hymn - inspiration often comes from the most amazing sources... :o)
hugs xx
Very lovely finish. The baking fabric is so pretty.
It's so beautiful Vickie!! I love the simplicity of this design and the backing fabric is perfect! Hugs and prayers!
A beautiful finish, love the script font.
Lovely stitching and a lovely post. As someone who was brought up in Wales, I can remember singing hymns from a Sankey and Moody Hymn book!
I read the story and it was so sad, but what great faith to write that hymn. I have sung it many times but now it will mean so much more to me.
Love and Blessings
Chris xxx
PS I have posted the chart to you and then remembered I also sent you my sewn pink items a little while ago? I hadn't realised it was you until I started to write the address and remembered it!
Congrats on your finish!
