Papa Francisco

Hi friends! Hope all is well with you. Welcome to new friends! =) Glad you stopped by!

I designed, stitched and finished a little pinkeep back in spring. I call it 'Papa Francisco'.
I kept it neutral in color. I used a platinum linen. I researched his attire. Made sure to give him his iron cross, silver ring and his black shoes.

Am I Catholic? Nope. I was raised Catholic and was for the first 30 years of my life. Became Lutheran like my husband and kids. Anyhow, it's kinda still a large part of me. My whole family is Catholic. I really, really admire Pope Francis. I thought it would be super to make a pinkeep of him and leave a space for him to sign. I looked up how to properly write a letter to the Pope and the address and I sent it off in June. Well, I guess I am real naive.

Guess what came in the mail for me yesterday?! Yup! It's back from Vatican City. BUT... no signature. :( I suppose it was too much to expect honestly. But I did get this.
Well, it is a copy of his signature. ;)

I walked over to the park and got myself some Willow tree branches. Those are a lot straighter than our Silver Maple tree branches. And.... I framed my 'Autumn Delights' with twigs, right on the top of the flatfold. It turned out just like I envisioned. Not the best picture, but here ya go.

I made a loaf of Challah bread yesterday. One of my favorite breads I bake. It is a Jewish recipe.
This one does not have the egg wash I usually put on it.

That's all I got for today friends. You have yourself a stitchtastic day now. =)

Stitching and praying,
Vickie

It's lovely to have had some feedback on your Papal creation! I come from a Catholic family (being French, it kind of come with the territory, isn't it?) but am not interested in religion anymore. So I think however this is really touching gesture to have received the Pope's picture, after all, he is a huge man. I adore your finishing touch on your beautiful cross stitch! I could admire it for hours :)

I'd say it is still an honor to have received what you did from the Vatican. Pretty cool! I too admire Pope Francis -- he's so cool! Nope, not Catholic. :D Love your Papa Francisco. Love the way you framed the Barbara Ana piece too -- very pretty! Hope you are doing ok pain-wise.

I am so impressed by your Papa Francisco! I would love to stitch something like this. I converted to Catholicism last year at the grand old age of 40 and I love Pope Francis. I wonder if he saw your stitchy tribute? Autumn Delights looks gorgeous too.

The card you received from the Pope will make your pinkeep into a nice little collection, so cool that you received it! I LOVE the branch frame - it's exactly how I pictured it, too. Turned out terrific!

Such a sweet pin keep :)

I wish I could just reach out and grab that bread. I love that kind of loaf and used to make it fairly frequently back a couple of years ago! Perhaps I'll make a batch this weekend :)

Happy Stitching Vicki :)

It's nice that your gift was acknowledged with some Vatican remembrances.
My son is a Jesuit priest (like Pope Francis) and hopes to have an opportunity to meet him someday. Me, too!

The twig frame for Autumn Delights is a perfect finish.
Your challah looks yummy.

What are Henry and Mabel up to these days?

I hope you are feeling better.

Catholic stitching and Jewish bread, covering both bases there!
It was good that the Vatican took the time to return your stitching and send a card too.

Love the twig frame, you did well to find the perfect twigs for this one.
