About a dozen years ago, I discovered charm quilts. Do you know what a charm quilt is? It is a one block quilt with no two fabric pieces the same. No repeats at all. Well once I get an idea in my head, I have a hard time letting it go. ;) So I have been collecting fabric for at least the last 7 years. And then........ nothing. I stitched. I made wall quilts, bed quilts, lap quilts, just not THAT quilt.
At the beginning of this year, I came across Carolien. She was making a Thimble Quilt. GO CHECK IT OUT!!! This is a tiny version of the Tumbler Quilt. She inspired me! Then I figured out how many different fabrics I would need to make a charm Thimble Quilt. HA! Forget that!!
So I decided on a 4 inch tumbler block. I did NOT prewash my hundreds of small pieces of fabric. They are all in the same color range. They will shrink a bit after the first wash, and I am great with that! Oh I did not tell you!! This is a ONE HUNDRED PERCENT PINK CHARM TUMBLER QUILT! tee hee! THIS is my dream my friends!
I have been busy this last week cutting 322 tumbler blocks. I need 162 more pink fabrics though. I need a total of 484 for my charm quilt. Here they are.

Carolien's thimble quilt is fantastic. I loved seeing it grow until it was finsihed. And all the pink fabrics you are collecting for your tumbler quilt are fantastic too. THis will become the perfect pink quilt for you.

I love your tumblers! Great collection of pink fabrics! Glad to hear Henry jumped over and not onto your fabrics. lol! I love batiks! It's been years since I used them though. They are so great -- like solids only more interesting! I think that's why I've always liked them. Looking forward to seeing everything!

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading about your first few lines how you collected fabric and then just did something else other than the one you so much wanted to. I guess we all get diverted towards other things doing more and more we want to try and enjoy :)
Batiks are very common fabric in India and since they are hand dyed, most of them bleed. So I don't use them. Also, I am not a fan of that print, it looks scribbled and cluttered print.
Such a wonderful project this will be, all that pink..... pink perfection!

ReplyDeleteI just Lillies blog and here I found another unbelieveable beautifull quilting project-I am so jealous and admire your tradition of quilting..It is all very new for us in Scandinavia.Oh how i would love to learn even the most easyest basic skills. I have to admit I have no clue how it is possible to cut so many pieces of fabric in same shape and SEW them 100% the same way.Even my straight lines when sewing for example curtains are not straight... Bless You skillfull hands and Your beautiful heart.God is with us!

ReplyDeleteI will gladly raid my stash to contribute to your pink quilt. I have worked with batiks and not a problem. Just wash before you use them and I used one of those dye catcher sheets.
