Jane Austen and Cake

Hi friends! How the heck are ya? Me? Pretty good, thanks. Let's see now. Thursday was Jacob's 19th birthday. Brian and I went out that night to the opening of Romeo & Juliet by the Milwaukee Ballet. The dancing was spectacular. Not so thrilled by the way they put their spin on it. They cheapened it. They threw in gestures, grabbing, gyrations and groping. Not tasteful at all. It made me a bit sad, as I have never witnessed a non-classy ballet. I much preferred the Romeo & Juliet we flew to Houston to see about 10 years ago.

Here is my progress from last weekend's addition to Mary's Sampler.
I finished stitching an angel for my mother's Christmas ornament. I need to do the finishing on that this week.

I also finished reading The Matters at Mansfield by Carrie Bebris. It was very good. I figured out who the killer was rather early on in the book. However, there were plot twists I could never have anticipated, so that is good. I am now reading The Intrigue at Highbury also by Carrie Bebris. These are part of a mystery series based on Mr. and Mrs. Darcy. If you are a Jane Austen fan, I think you would really enjoy these. I believe there are 6 in the series. I am almost done with the series now.

This is the birthday cake I made for Jacob. We are having a get together with family for him today. This is Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cake. He is a massive cookie dough fan.
I will let you know how good it was. Here is the link for the recipe.

I also made up some of these sweet, little acorns. Too cute!!
I saw this on ebay.

OH MY GOSH!!! I MEAN REALLY, CAN YOU NOT SEE THIS IN OUR FRONT YARD WITH MY PINK CHRISTMAS TREE AND PINK WREATH ON THE FRONT DOOR!! A 42 INCH LIGHTED CHRISTMAS POODLE!! AHH! I CAN'T STAND IT!! Too bad it is $119.99. And Brian said, "Um, are you kidding me?!"

I thank God for you my friends! Thanks for stopping by. Have a super, stitchtastic day!

Stitching and praying,
Vickie

Mary's Sampler is looking brilliant. I want to get mine up to date this afternoon.

Not sure about the poodle though. Maybe they will have a sale after Christmas? Might be worth watching to see?

Mary's Sampler looks wonderful! Wow, that is some price tag on the lit up poodle. Too bad -- it really would look great in your yard. Happy birthday to Jacob! Hope you all have a good celebration today. Love those acorns and the cake. Sweet Mabel looks contented. Hope you're still feeling great!

Happy birthday to your son Jacob!! What an amazing cake! Can you come and make mine?!?! Love the SAL so far. I've been meaning to start that but haven't yet. Now seeing it with all the stars, it's just so darling. Um, yes, I'm with your husband on not buying the poodle. Far too expensive! Hugs and prayers to you Vickie!!

Good Morning Vickie, Your birthday cake looks good and my daughter-in-law loves chocolate. Your stitching is always awesome and I love it. I have been doing more reading besides my embroidery. I like the poodle, but not at that price. I would watch to see if they had them after Christmas and see if the price went down. I feel for you and your cracked rib. Mine was reaching for something over a wooden arm of the chair. Have a wonderful weekend. Hugs and Prayers from your Missouri Friend.

Methinks that poodle would be overkill Vickie--hold back!! Great progress on Mary's Sampler tho! Happy Birthday to Jacob--gosh, what a yummy looking cake!

Your sampler looks great. That cake has really caught my eye though. Perfect for a birthday party.

Maybe you will have to exercise a bit of willpower on that poodle. I know it's hard.

Sorry the ballet got a bit tacky. Sometimes they just like to change it up and maybe sell more tickets.

Lovely looking Mary's Sampler, Vickie! And Happy Birthday to Jacob--what a fabulous looking cake. Those little candy acorns are so sweet--I might just need to make some of my own for Thanksgiving...

How sad that they had to shake up a classical ballet like Romeo and Juliet--I'm sure that is not what most of the people were there to see...

Looks like you had a wonderful birthday celebration. The cake looks amazing.
Ha! Ha! The big poodle is maybe a wee bit over the top :)
Hugs!

Great Mary's progress. Those acorns are just darling! I'm thinking there should be some other white yard piece could be converted to look like this, at least 1/4 the cost. But it does sound like it would fit in perfectly.

LOVE that poodle!!! My hubby would say the same thing if I showed him. lol Too bad it's so much - it would be a great addition to our poodle collections, right? :)

I love going to the ballet! The one I loved the most was "The Nutcracker Suite". It's so sad that they feel the need to add all that stuff (I call it smut, actually) to the ballet, as if that makes it better.

Your cake and cross stitch are wonderful and Mabel is so cute! Happy Birthday to Jacob!

Blessings - Julie

Mary's sampler is so sweet and the soft muted shades are very pretty.
Yummy cooking, I've never seen anything like those little acorns before, wish the ones on our Oak Trees in the garden were like that!
I know if that was a light up rabbit I'd been very tempted too but we have the real things Vickie, maybe if we asked nicely they'd let us put a few fairy lights around them and stand them in the yard ~ think I'd know what Tilly's reaction might be!!!
Take Care and love the pic of you and the doggies in your sidebar
